In May 1923, the first YMCA Short Course National Swimming Championship was held. This April, the Y celebrates 100 years of Y swimming history in Greensboro at the 2023 YMCA National Short Course Swimming Championships.

More than 1,300 athletes from 200+ YMCAs across the country, including several NC associations, will come together April 3-7 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center for this year’s competition and celebration. When the first national meet was held 100 years ago at the Brooklyn Central Branch YMCA, there were just 10 Ys from four states and one Canadian province participating.

Special guests will include YUSA President Suzanne McCormick, Olympic Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines, Olympic Gold Medalist, NC State graduate and Charlotte resident Cullen Jones; Raleigh native and former YMCA of the Triangle swimmer Charlie Houchin, along with several other Olympians and distinguished alumni.
